Eric made this Christmas card for his family. It sums up some of the fun we have in Chicago. (love his cards!)
We always play Rummikub as a family. It stretches my brain, me not being a math/logical person. :)
We open presents together after we sing Christmas carols that we all forget the words to! Here, Lois is telling a story. She's our little elf/Mrs. Claus/festive person. She brings out the jingle bell socks and Santa hat and is just so fun!
Lois had my name this year for Christmas. I requested Toms shoes, which I've been wanting for awhile. They are SO comfortable! I know they're kind of trendy right now, but it really is a good company - for each pair sold, one pair is donated to a child in need, usually in an impoverished country.
My favorite part of Chicago Christmas is going sledding with Lois. She is a daredevil!
Eric had a mishap with the good ol' wooden sled this year. The runner broke, and he tumbled off, resulting in a HUGE and ugly bruise on his leg. Poor thing...look at that face!
We introduced a new game to Eric's family - Settlers of Catan. Eric and I love this game. It's kind of a mix between Monopoly, Risk, and Oregon Trail (ha!). This game lasted quite a long time (2 1/2 hours) because we had three new players, but somehow Lois managed to pull out a win!...without even knowing it!
Another part of Chicago Christmas is driving down to Peoria, IL to visit Eric's grandmother and Lois's side of the family. We spent hours playing and mastering this game that defies gravity:
Eric spent a lot of time in the back room with Grandma Goodenough, getting stories of her past. Eric has become quite the historian for his family (which makes my dad kind of giddy).

When we got back to Chicago, we spent a day with Eric's childhood friends/brothers-from-another-mother, Steve and Dan. They took us to a new hill to go sledding. Check out the size of this hill! We'll have to take Lois there next year. It was so much fun, but such a workout trudging back up it!
Here we all are: Dan, Steve, Eric, Tammy (Dan's now-fiancee!), and me. We raced, and I'm pretty sure I lost...
Eric was FINALLY able to (get rid of) give his Go! Ghana hats to his buddies. Yes, we carted these around everywhere...but they came in useful during Halloween and Red Ribbon week. :)
Overall, we love experiencing both Christmases every year. I'm not sure how many more years we can do this (financially and time-wise), but I always look forward to spending time with both families. We are so blessed!

we LOVE catan! you should try the game called "puerto rico." it may be even more complicated than catan but it's a lot of fun, too. :)
