Eric has a unique ministry when he visits the Village of Hope. Last year, he made sure all of the computers were plugged in properly (especially in the homes on campus), and he had a tutorial with the house dads about how to send an email. This year, the Village of Hope has all new computers (complete with flat screen monitors!).
Eric wanted to bring some software over to help out the teachers and students at Hope Academy. So, after some unexpected funds came to us earlier this summer (THANK YOU!!!), Eric and I decided to donate all of it in various ways to VOH. One of those ways was to purchase "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" for all of the computers in both computer labs and in the homes on campus. (Sure, he could have downloaded one copy to all the computers, but he has a conscience...)
He also purchased a few copies of "Professor Teaches Microsoft Office." He and Ted Howard installed the software during several days of our trip.
Ted and Eric held a computer session for the 8th grade students to come try out the new software. The kids LOVED the typing games. Hopefully their 3 wpm will increase because of this. Eric believes (as do I) that all students (and teachers) need to know the basic skills of typing to be able to keep up in this ever-changing technological world.

Here, it looks like Ted is performing some ritual thing on the computers... notice the bears in the background discussing it. I believe the entire village in the background is rejoicing.

Ted and Eric helped them sand down walls and re-paint. They worked all week on one of the clinics.
Our Medical Team (Janet Randolph shown) worked on going through the disaster-area of the storage room. They threw out many old supplies (much to the shagrin (sp?) of the local Ghanaians who hesitate to throw away anything), cleaned the area, and helped with the medical concerns in the community.
We also had the Ballard family join us later in the week to work in the eye clinic. The Village of Hope also dedicated the "Tommy and Melinda Ballard House." It's a duplex -- the Tommy Ballard side and the Melinda Ballard side -- where full time nurses will live. They have had some trouble in the past having full-time help, so this will make it so much easier.
